1. How would you describe the relationship between your wellness practices and personal style?
Wellness and personal style are two of my favourite topics and creative outlets, they’re both expressions of self-respect and passion for me. When I nourish my body well, I feel more confident and at home in my own skin, and that directly influences how I show up and how I dress. What you eat truly impacts how your skin looks and how you feel in your body, and prioritizing whole, nourishing foods allows me to feel my best across all areas of my life. Fashion is one of the ways I express that feeling, and I wouldn’t say I have one defined style, it shifts depending on the day, from Birkenstocks and a canvas tote at the farmers market, to a more elevated, Parisian-inspired look. I’m drawn to pieces that feel good on my body, cashmere, high necks, low backs, scarves, and lots of layers. There’s also something about a big tote bag that feels very me, whether it’s filled with books and study materials or a baguette to pair with dinner, she’s multifunctional. Comfort is essential, but I also love feeling feminine, beautiful and elevated in what I wear.
2. What is a piece or pieces in your wardrobe that instantly brings your back to yourself?
A baggy dad jean, a perfect clean white tee, and sweet little ballet flats instantly bring me back to myself, there’s something about that combination that makes me feel both grounded and feminine. I love draping my shoulders with scarves and layering whenever I can, anything I can wrap adds warmth, texture, and a sense of ease to an outfit. A great coat or structured jacket always pulls everything together and makes me feel polished, no matter the day. I’m also obsessed with my extra-big Polène Paris tote in chocolate brown, it carries everything and feels very me. I gravitate toward soft, neutral tones like whites, creams, beiges, and chocolates, I find black too harsh on my complexion, and these softer, elegant shades make me feel most at home in my clothes.
3. What rituals are non-negotiable for you? What are little things you do throughout the day to stay balanced?
Every morning starts with hydration for me, ideally warm water. From a Chinese medicine perspective, warm water helps gently wake up digestion and support the gut first thing in the morning, instead of shocking the digestive system. I always take my daily probiotic at this time as well. Then comes my frothy morning coffee, which I genuinely dream about and is hands down the highlight of my morning. I also make it a priority to get sunlight as early as possible to help regulate my circadian rhythm, that early light signals to your brain that it’s time to be awake, which supports energy during the day and better sleep at night. I recently got a Hatch alarm clock to help with this, and it’s been such a helpful tool, especially on the rainy Vancouver mornings.
Movement is a must for me too, whether that’s a workout and a walk. I don’t put pressure on what it looks like, my body just needs to move, and honestly walking is so underrated for calming the nervous system. I’m very much a creature of habit, I can eat the same breakfast for years and be completely happy. Right now it’s three whole organic pasture-raised eggs with organic turkey and fruit like berries or kiwi. Cooking is also a huge non-negotiable for me. If you follow me on Instagram, you know I love creating nourishing meals at home and sharing food that’s healthy and based around whole foods, nothing bland or boring. Cooking feels grounding for me and is one of the ways I take care of myself on a daily basis.
